In Pittsburgh-August 1999
By Mike Shanley
Violinist Lisa Miles might be familiar to local music fans as a member of the Feral Family and frequent guest with A.T.S. But her activities extend into several other realms of local performance arts: She has accompanied the Dance Alloy, composed a piece for the Pittsburgh Dance Council and scored local films. Miles also performs her own compositions, mixing jarring melodies and layering to create a thick texture of sound. She has appeared in a number of spaces, ranging from the Three Rivers Arts Festival to the Andy Warhol Museum and the East End Event. Later this month Miles will perform at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, a 3-year old forum for avant garde theater, music and poetry. Her show at Millvale will be a warm-up for the trip, and will feature appearances by several close friends from the Pittsburgh music scene; she’ll also play a duet with local (and world-renowned) harp player Anne LeBaron.
